Okay, here is goes.... So about a month or so ago, I had my radiator hoses changed because there was a pinhole leak in one of them...it took the idiot 3 days to finish, with lots of problems and his mechanical skills or lack there of. I got my car back and everything was fine... Until Friday night...I was up in Houston for the weekend to hang out with the guys for the whole F&F thing...movie, racing, and hanging out... So we just got done seeing the movie and we were headed to a local area where people race in a protected area, I hit some railroad pretty bad that you couldn’t see until you were on top of them. When we got to our area I got out and looked the car over, everything seemed to be fine, no odd sounds or anything, so we went on with our night... About an hour or so later me and a friend were going to race each other in our Z's and I went to start the engine and I heard an extremely weird noise, I didn’t think it was me until someone came running over, we popped the hood, tried to take a look, couldn’t see anything... I was told that it could be a fan belt squealing, but that just wasn’t a normal squeal, so we decided to let the engine cool a bit and then try to start it up again, the noise only got worse, I thought I was about to lose my timing belt or something...the noise was coming out of the front of the engine. So at about 3am I made a couple calls to some trusty friends and I was told not to drive it, anywhere. So I ended up having it towed to my hotel for the night and then had it towed to SGP in the morning. When I got it to the shop, Mark was taking a look at it and actually couldn’t see what was wrong but he could kind of pin point the noise to one general area. It ended up being that he had to take out the radiator to get a better look, then off came the belts and a few other things. A couple hours later, the problem was found. A clamp from one of the hoses that the mechanic was supposed to fix, broke off and fell into the engine, either he didn’t bother fishing it out, forgot, or couldn’t find it. Well, what I was thinking, when I hit those rail road tracks, it made the clamp unlodged from where ever it was and fall in between my water pump pulley and the engine. The clamp made a pretty deep divit in the inside of the pulley and probably could have done a lot more damage that it had done. So come to find out, the guy never ended up changing the hoses, he just tried his best to patch them. And now, the problems and the money that was spent on this weekend for my car, was all because of his ignorance. My question is…. is there anything that can be done because of what happened? Advice would be greatly appreciated. I have included pics of the clamp, sorry they are a little blurry, but i just wanted to show you size how it was broken and some warn places from the metal on metal... Thanks Julie The clamp measures almost 2 inches and one inch wide at its widest point
This sorta shows you the parts where the clap rubbed metat to metal making it shiny on both sides
again, sorry for the bad pics.....
